Think of your bookmark as a tiny GPS for your book. It helps you instantly find the exact spot where you paused reading on your personal data device—which is just a cool, old-school name for your book!
1. They Both Save Information
The Book: An author types up a story, prints it onto paper using ink, and binds it together. The story is now permanently saved.
The Device: You write a story using "Word" and save it with a special name. The computer writes that data onto a microchip or a spinning disc.
2. They Don't Need Power to Keep Data
The Book: You can close a book, put it on a shelf for 50 years, and the words will still be there. It does not need a battery.
The Device: When you turn off your computer, your story doesn't vanish. The storage device holds onto it safely.
3. They Use a Code to Read and Write
The Book: Information is stored using a code called the alphabet (A, B, C). Your eyes read the letters and your brain decodes them into a story.
The Device: Information is stored using a code called binary (ones and zeros, like 01001). The computer's brain decodes those numbers into colors, sounds, and images on your screen.
4. They Have an Index to Find Things Fast
The Book: If you want to find Chapter 5, you look at the Table of Contents at the front to find the exact page number.
The Device: When you click on your story, the drive uses a hidden "File System" (its own Table of Contents) to find the exact spot where that story is hidden on the chip.
