Tools, Materials and Fasteners That Join Things Together
A fastener is a device that joins things together.  Fasteners are not permanent. They can be removed without damaging the device.

This student is attaching 1/12 of a paper carton of eggs using a 2cm number 8 flat head Robertson Screw. This Robertson screw is being driven with a red number 8 Robertson screwdriver.

Under the screw is a small flat metal washer.  A washer is a flat thin ring of steel used to reinforce this joint. The washer makes the assembly of these parts strong and tight.

This student is using a hot glue gun and hot glue to attach a wood hub to a cd.

These four cd’s will be used as wheels for her gravity car. HMA, also known as hot glue, is a thermoplastic adhesive.

A thermoplastic becomes a liquid when heated but hardens as it is cooling.

Caution: This is a hot material so wear safety glasses when using!
