What is Scale in Math?
To scale a drawing means you are making a picture that is either smaller or larger than the real object.
To keep the shape exactly the same, you change the size using a specific matching ratio.
1. Scaling Up (2:1 Scale)
A 2:1 scale means you are scaling up to make a giant blueprint!
The Rule: Every 1 cm on your real object becomes 2 cm on your graph paper.
The Math: You are doubling (multiplying by 2) all of your original measurements.
2. Scaling Down (1:2 Scale)
A 1:2 scale means you are scaling down to make a mini blueprint!
The Rule: Every 1 cm on your real object becomes 0.5 cm (half a centimetre) on your graph paper.
The Math: You are halving (dividing by 2) all of your original measurements.
