Vertex
Vertex: In geometry, a vertex is a math word for a corner point where two or more straight lines meet.
Here are the three main ways you will see a vertex used in geometry class:
1. In Flat Shapes (2D Geometry)
It is the point where two sides of a flat shape come together to form an angle.
A triangle has 3 vertices.
A rectangle has 4 vertices.
A pentagon has 5 vertices and so on to more complicated shapes.
A circle has 0 vertices because it does not have corners.
2. In Solid Shapes (3D Geometry)
It is the sharp corner point where three or more flat sides (faces) and edges meet.
A cube has 8 vertices.
A pyramid with a square bottom has 5 vertices.
A sphere (a ball) has 0 vertices because it is completely round with no corners!
