Wood
Washers, Screws And a Screwdriver
Above are three items you can use to attach a piece of wood to a piece of cardboard. The outside diameter of the washers is 2cm,  the internal diameter of the hole is 0.5cm  (5mm).

The screws are roundhead, robertson screws, 2cm long.

The Green Robertson Screwdriver is a (#1). It turns screw types 5, 6, and 7.  The screws in the photo are #6s.

You can buy (two by two) spruce wood in a lumber yard. Advanced lumber yards can easily plane it smooth to a 3cm X 3cm thickness.
A 3cm X 3cm piece of wood fits precisely inside a toilet paper roll or a paper towel roll.

These two important, standard, round items should be part of your building materials stock.

What can you do with a piece of wood and cardboard?

The paper tube (note: a tube is a cylinder), wood and cardboard project is an excellent test of your building, math and art skills.

You can also add the names of all the tools and materials to your spelling list.

An interesting tool, the awl, is a very old,  over 7000 years old. It is also a good example of an homophone. Awl and all are homophones. Homophones are words that sound alike but do not have the same meaning.

Note that the wood and cardboard have lines drawn from one corner to the other. These are called diagonal lines. By drawing them you will find the center of the two surfaces.

This will allow you to use an awl to punch a hole through the cardboard. With help from an adult, you can drill a hole into the center of the wood using the 2mm twist dill and a portable hand drill.

Finally, using a #1 screwdriver,
(green), screw and washer, attach the cardboard to the wood.
