Modify
Think of modifying like giving a piece of technology a "level-up" or a secret transformation!

In the world of inventing, to modify something means you aren’t starting from scratch—you’re taking something that already exists and changing it to make it better, faster, or just plain cooler.

Here is how the "Three R’s" of inventing work together:

Reuse: Using an object exactly as it is for a new job (like using an old jar to hold your pens).

Repurpose: Giving an object a brand-new "career" (like turning those empty cereal boxes into a cardboard cube for a math game).

Modify: This is the science and tech part! It’s when you physically change or adjust an object to make it do something it wasn't originally designed to do.

The "Super-Chalk" Example
Check out this awesome MST transformation:

Imagine a music tool designed to draw five lines for songs. By using technology (tools like vice grips) and math (calculating the space between lines), an inventor can remove the middle part and swap the colors to red and blue.

Suddenly, a music tool is repurposed into a cursive writing guide! It wasn't a brand-new invention, but a clever modification that solved a real-world problem in the classroom.

Do you have an old gadget or container nearby that we could brainstorm a "modification" for?
